Prosthetic Dentistry
This area of dentistry focuses on cosmetics and reconstruction and/or replacement of missing, broken, or discolored teeth and tissues. Natural-looking substitutes such as crowns, bridges, veneers, and dentures are often used to correct these common smile blemishes.
Dental Restoration Options
A crown is a type of dental restoration that covers or “caps” a tooth so as to restore it to its normal shape and size thereby strengthening the tooth and/or improving its appearance.
A bridge (sometimes called a fixed partial denture) can replace or span a space in your mouth where one or more teeth have been lost. There are two types of bridges – fixed and removable. As the name suggests, a fixed bridge is cemented or bonded into place and only a dentist can remove it. A removable bridge can be taken out of the mouth at will for cleaning.
As opposed to a crown which covers the entire tooth, a dental veneer is a thin porcelain covering that is only placed over the visible (front) part of the tooth. Veneers are sometimes used to correct worn or chipped teeth and to shape up uneven spaces between teeth, especially the upper front teeth. Also as a popular treatment option for discolored, poorly shaped or slightly crooked front teeth, the veneer procedure is simple and comfortable and may be completed in just a few visits to Madison Smile.
